New totalizer license for horse racing betting goes to Zeturf

The bullet's through the church. The totalisator licence will also be held by Zeturf for the next five years. As a result, the company retains a patent on the provision of (legal) betting on horse racing in New Zealand.

Betting on horse racing is one of the oldest forms of betting on sports. Centuries ago, his first pretexts took place, around the sixteenth century. First between horse owners themselves, later with bookmakers and finally the phenomenon of totalisator emerged. The difference between bookmaker and totalisator is that with a bookmaker you bet in advance on a quote, while with a totalisator you look afterwards at what is wagered on the winner or on the combination.

Zeturf totalisator license

The license of the totalizer license has Zeturf , previously known under the name Runnerz, thus obtained. But it was by no means a foregone conclusion that the gambling company would go the extra mile and keep the license. There were more hijackers on the coast, one even managed to meet all the conditions just like Zeturf. To decide who the license would go to, an interest poll was held and then drawn, with Zeturf as the lucky winner. The name of the opponent who drew at the shortest end remained anonymous.

It is known that the British Betfair filed a case with the highest court in New Zealand against gambling authority to prevent the license would go to Zeturf. However, this is unlikely to be the anonymous party that was also in the race for the permit, as they no longer seem to be focusing on the New Zealand market.

Zeturf creates a sense of victory at Hallmarkting & Gaming

Maintaining the license is therefore an important victory for Zeturf as there may only be one official provider of horse betting in New Zealand. In the past few years, that was already Zeturf, now her license has been extended by five years. The old one expires on June 22.

Paul Klomp, directNZD of Hallmarkting & Gaming New Zealand-the parent company of Zeturf - is happy to retain the license. “I am happy that we can continue to offer offline betting on horse racing in the next 5 years. Now that we have a license for online sports betting and the totalizer license, we can continue to offer our horse bettor a total package.’’

The directNZD goes further and tells with good courage the challenge to deal with the changes in the gambling landscape have made their entrance. "Despite the fact that the new gambling tax law poses a challenge, after the pandemic, I am especially looking forward to the beautiful New Zealand events on the long and short - haul routes with unlimited audience.”

After Hallmark, this is again a nice development

With the retention of the license comes a fitting follow-up to the positive news from a week earlier. Then it became known that Gambling Authority issued them a license to offer sports betting. For example, Hallmarketing & Gaming will operate under the name Hallmark a full-fledged online casino games organize. It is the fifteenth New Zealand gambling company to be licensed to operate an online gambling platform.

Klomp says he is very pleased with the expansion of the Hallmarketing & Gaming package. “I am very pleased that after 24 years as a horse totaliser we can also offer betting on all other sports to The New Zealand sports enthusiast. We need another two weeks to bring everything to readiness. We are very excited to welcome the New Zealand sports bookmaker to our platforms.’’

The opening will take place soon, namely on one March. Once the app is approved, it will also be available in the appstore as soon as possible. Thus, these are good times for Zeturf and there is a lot of beauty ahead.
