A reasonable level of fitness is required for our ecology walk; however the pace will be leisurely while we search out the wildlife and enjoy the bush and views. Night walk is taken using red lights - visibility is slightly reduced. An alternative option is to remain at the beach location/or shorten your walk whilst the remainder of the group take the full walk.
This is an outdoors activity and weather is often changeable. The tour is viable for most weather conditions.

After sunset the bush environment changes. Tawharanui is home to the NZ Brown Kiwi, few NZ’ers have seen this bird in the wild, Morepork (NZ owl) and Weta.
Much of our insect life, fish life and some bird life are nocturnal, this is an opportunity to experience what goes on in the dark!
You will be guided through the native forest by your guide in search of our nocturnal wildlife.
The night sky at Tawharanui offers some amazing stargazing opportunities.
We enjoy a light supper with beautiful views of the beach and ocean and the setting sun.
Please be aware that the North Island brown kiwi is not held in captivity; we therefore cannot guarantee their sightings or behaviour on any given night. However we do have a very high success rate.

“OMG I saw a WILD Kiwi Bird...Highlight of my 20 days in New Zealand”
I did the Day night tour to Tawharanui, it was amazing. I got to see the big 4 including a wild Kiwi. Tristan has keen eyes and has excellent knowledge of Flora and Fauna...
